Chinese Pear Dessert Soup
The succulent and juicy Chinese spiced pear will make you
want more when you take your first bite. The sweet pastry soup is gently
improved with jujubes, Chinese red dates, goji berries and a shower of honey.
The pear's cooling qualities are balanced by the warming cinnamon and anise.
This Chinese Pear Dessert Soup is a delicious, nourishing, easy-to-make, and
refreshing alternative dessert that can be served hot or cold. It is only
slightly sweet.
What precisely is a sweet soup, or tong sui?
The Chinese word "tong sui" literally means
"sugar water." Sui" refers to water, while Tong" refers to
sugar. Dessert soup is any sweet soup that is typically served at the end of a
Cantonese meal. Sweet treats are regularly served warm, yet they can likewise
be served cold or at room temperature.
Have you ever had a dessert soup that was sweet? Sweet
pastry soups are exceptionally normal in Asia. Our Hot Black Sesame Cereal is
one of our all-time favorites. Breakfast may also include Hot Black Sesame
Cereal on occasion. It only has a light sweetness.

We wanted to make a dessert that can be made entirely in an
instant pot (pressure cooker), slow cooker, or even on the stovetop because
many Chinese recipes typically call for a steamer or stovetop. Depending on
your requirements, we have included all three cooking options.
Ingredients:
- 8 whole pears, peeled with the stems still attached, ripe and firm
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 cups water
- 3 twills cinnamon sticks or 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 2 whole star anise
- 16 Chinese red dates, also known as jujubes
- 2 tablespoons goji berries
- 13.5 cups honey, or as much as 23.5 cups, depending on how sweet you like it.
Instructions
For the Instant Pot Drizzle lemon juice over the pears after
placing them upright in the instant pot. Cook for 6 minutes at high pressure
with water, cinnamon sticks, star anise, Chinese red dates, goji berries, and
honey before performing a quick release. Enjoy!
Method by stovetop: Place the pears in a pot and shower them
with lemon juice. Join the pears, cinnamon sticks, star anise, Chinese red
dates, goji berries, and honey with adequate water to cover them halfway. If
you really want to fill your pot with water, you should also add more honey.
Pears should be steam-cooked for about 30 minutes to achieve fork-tenderness.
Enjoy!
The Method of Cooking Slowly: Drizzle lemon juice over the
upright pears that have been placed in your slow cooker. Cook on high for a few
hours, or until fork-delicate, with water, cinnamon sticks, star anise, Chinese
red dates, goji berries, and honey. Enjoy!
In a bowl, combine the goji berries and Chinese red dates
with the pears and a little bit of the sweet dessert soup. Depending on your
preference, consume it hot, cold, or at room temperature. In a sealed
container, leftovers can be kept up to three days at room temperature.
Notes:
For the best results, use firm, ripe pears. Cooking time
will be reduced if you cut your pears rather than cooking them whole. Rock
sugar can be used in place of honey. You can leave out the cinnamon and star
anise if you have a fever.
